Make a Hit with Sitting Volleyball!

Posted on: March 15, 2010

When you hear of a sport with sitting in the title, like sitting volleyball, you automatically think it’s going to be easy. Right? Well, sorry to tell you this, but if my experiences were anything to go by, then you’re wrong. Fair do’s, I’m not the fittest person in the gym, but this sport definitely proved to be something of a workout.

Come along and play sitting volleyball at Any-Body Month this Wednesday!

Good for developing your cardio vascular fitness, upper body strength and coordination, sitting volleyball is also a fun and sociable sport.

An adaptation of volleyball, the sitting game is a Paralympic sport and the University Club and Department are already trialling it at the Jubilee Sports Centre on a Thursday evening.

We’re feeling generous and thought that we’d also give you the opportunity to try sitting volleyball during Any-Body Month this Wednesday – 17th March. The session will be lead by experts from Volleyball England.

It will involve practising drills, skills, digging, blocking, shooting and serving – all with your bottoms firmly placed on the floor. Be warned the removal of the slightest bum cheek from the floor will receive a raised eyebrow and a “tut” from the coach.

Good hand-eye coordination combined with some impressive bum shuffling is what I’ve found to be the winning formula in this game.

It’s definitely a sport where you can have fun and get fit. So why not come along and give it a try?

Wednesday 17th March
